Review

Hoot to Kill is a murder mystery set in a logging community in the B.C.
interior, where controversy arises over clearcutting, the preservation
of the spotted owl habitat, and the threatened livelihood of the
loggers. Robyn Devara, the heroine, is a naturalist sent to the area to
confirm the existence of the owls. Instead of owls, she finds the body
of a prominent logger who has been stabbed to death with a spike of the
type used by conservationist idealogues to sabotage logging operations.
A group of idealogues who happen to be in town become the focus of
suspicion. Robyn and some friends become involved in the murder
investigation, much to the chagrin of the local RCMP. The author’s
keen ear for local dialects enhances the credibility of this tale.
