Review

Translated and introduced by Bruce Whiteman and Francis Farley-Chevrier,
this volume of selected poems by Franзois Charron is intended to
introduce anglophone readers to this avant-garde and award-winning
Quebec poet. The volume reveals a distinctive progression in Charron’s
work, at first from sociopolitical to more formalist poetry, and finally
to a mature simplicity, illustrated in the line “as long as there are
words, we will voice them to tame the pure delight of death.”

English-Canadian poets and poetry lovers should welcome their
introduction to this acutely visual and eloquent poet.
