Sex of the Stars

Marguerite Andersen is a professor of French studies at the University
of Guelph.

Published in 1987 and later turned into a successful film, Monique
Proulx’s first novel tells the story of a transsexual and the problems
his physical transformation creates for his family, including his
11-year-old daughter. Recounted with sensitivity and wit, this
timely—and very urban—novel has been translated with great
intelligence by novelist and award-winning translator Matt Cohen.
