Nice Girls Finish Last is Sparkle Hayter’s second mystery featuring
Robin Hudson, who works for the All News Network (ANN). When her
gynecologist is murdered, Robin’s smarmy boss, Jerry Spurdle, asks her
to cover the story. Jerry is convinced that the doctor’s death has a
strong connection to the world of S & M: the doctor is found handcuffed
to his chair, and a matchbook from an infamous New York S & M club is
found at the scene of the crime. Robin reluctantly accepts the
assignment, but soon finds herself drawn deeper into the mystery of the
doctor’s death and its solution.

Like her heroine, Sparkle Hayter is a journalist; she has worked for
several Canadian and American television networks, including CNN in
Atlanta. Hayter’s inside view of a newsroom provides the reader with a
host of hilarious characters and insights into the competitive and often
sleazy world of newsmaking. Robin admits to producing reports on
“shoddy sperm banks, UFO abductees, and the shady side of the
hairpiece industry.”

Robin is a delightful creation: smart, funny, and clumsy. Here’s
hoping that Hayter will think of many more mysteries for Robin to solve.
