Review

Tara Road is the story of two families and the communities in which they
live. The apparent contentedness of the Irish family, consisting of
Danny and Ria and their two children, is shattered when Danny reveals
that he is leaving his wife for his younger, pregnant girlfriend. A
devastated Rita impulsively exchanges houses for the summer with
Marilyn, who lives in Connecticut and has a painful past of her own to
reckon with. For both women, the new setting inspires profound changes.

The characters in both the Ireland and Connecticut settings are many and
varied, and each speaks with his or her own voice. However, only Marilyn
and Ria experience real character development. This straightforward and
fast-paced tale is pleasant to read, if not especially memorable.
