Review

Profiling nine Leaf captains (most from the post–1957 era), this
enjoyable and highly readable book weaves together anecdote, fact, and a
wealth of trivia. We learn how the players got their nicknames, the
route each took to the Leafs, their personal highs and lows, and how
they handled retirement. In between opening and concluding profiles of
Doug Gilmour, the team’s current captain, are separate chapters
devoted to Hap Day, Syl Apps, Ted Kennedy, George Armstrong, Dave Keon,
Darryl Sittler, Rick Vaive, and Wendel Clark.

This is a book all hockey fans will enjoy. Recommended for
public-library collections.
