Review

The 11 essays that make up this volume have already appeared in such
publications as Mirror Machine: Video and Identity, Parachute, Text, and
Descant. The author draws on her extensive background at the Art Gallery
of Ontario, the Canada Council, and Art Metropole, as well as on her
experiences as an independent curator, to provide a comprehensive,
insightful, and accessible overview of the historical and artistic
evolution of Canadian video. She examines the major differences not only
between American and Canadian approaches to video but also between
anglophone and francophone approaches. Taken as a whole, this collection
illuminates the video landscape in a perceptive and revealing fashion.
