Review

Drama Games contains a wealth of practical insights and a good selection
of drama games and exercises ranging from the very simple to the
reasonably complex. In preparing this revised edition, the author
received input from many satisfied practitioners. The focus is on drama
(“what happens to participants while they are engaged in the
activity”) as opposed to theatre (a collective performance before an
audience).

Warren dispels myths about the developmentally disabled and encourages
respectful integration of groups and ages. Although leaders need to be
sensitive to the needs and responses of their charges, they do not have
to be either drama or education specialists to make use of these games.
Adaptation of the material to a particular group’s capabilities is
encouraged.

Accompanying the games are “at-a-glance” guides and recommended
reference materials. The bibliography at the end of the book is good,
but would better serve Warren’s target audience if it were annotated.
