Review

Ever felt like trading your comfortable but boring lifestyle for
something different? Like travel or a new career? This book may be just
the impetus you need to get going. The author describes how, at age 40,
he abandoned the grey life of a community-college English teacher to
travel with his companion, Elaine, to such exotic places as India and
Jamaica. He would return to Canada to earn a few bucks doing freelance
writing before hitting the trail again.

Practical realities like financial security and family responsibilities
will inevitably dissuade some readers from following Shannon’s lead.
The potential boredom of a long-term nomadic lifestyle may deter still
others. What this sprightly book does is give readers a taste of
risk-free escape and adventure.
