Review

This compilation of articles, interviews, and information (some drawn
from the Internet) will disappoint even its obviously intended audience:
the female fans of David Duchovny. The occasional entertaining or
informative anecdote is not enough to compensate for the book’s
painful lack of substance. Mitchell’s trite and derivative analysis of
Duchovny’s personal and professional lives fails to address the
reasons for the actor’s appeal. While the filmography and X Files
episode guide provided are of practical value, the same cannot be said
for such inclusions as the crossword puzzle, the MAD magazine strip, and
quotations taken from an Internet chat room. Its failures as a serious
profile aside, The Duchovny Files is not even a good piece of fluff.
