Review

In this intimate biography, Marion Douglas Kerans chronicles the life
and times of her longtime friend and colleague Muriel Duckworth, a
remarkable Canadian woman whose political career encompassed the Social
Gospel movement of the 1930s and the feminist peace activism of the
1980s. In whatever role she took on—adult educator, campaigner against
the Vietnam War, president of the National Voice of Women, NDP
candidate, Quaker, or antinuclear world traveler—Duckworth stood on
principle rather than on political fashion. More than just a celebration
of an extraordinary life, this book provides a rich history of Canadian
religion, politics, and education over the past century.
