Review

As the title suggests, this guide lists restaurants in the Montreal area
where a good meal can be had for $10 or less before taxes and beverages.
The recommendations are based on the suggestions of more than 50
writers, media persons, and other acquaintances of the editors. A page
is devoted to each restaurant, with pertinent information provided, such
as address, access by public transportation, telephone number, hours of
opening, availability of alcohol, acceptance of credit cards,
specialties of the house with prices, as well as ambience and other
unique characteristics that might appeal to the prospective diner. An
index lists each restaurant by name, specialty, and geographic area. The
peculiar difficulty (in part due to the French language) of finding a
specific restaurant listing in the Montreal telephone book is described
in an appendix, “The Sex of Restaurants,” by noted humorist Josh
Freed. Cheap Thrills is recommended as a handy guide for both tourists
and Montreal residents.
