Review

This guide to assessing the performance of classroom teachers defines
the roles and responsibilities of all members of the community of
learners—kids, parents, teachers, and supervisors. According to the
author, recognizing good teaching requires the evaluation of four
elements of performance: attitude, skills, expectations, and feedback.
These components form the basis of the teacher report card. Although the
suggested three-point scale tends to favor the middle ranking, it does
provide a useful tool for establishing dialogue with the individuals
concerned.

This balanced and useful resource for parents, teachers, and
administrators provides addresses and phone numbers for parent
associations, advocacy groups, publications, and provincial ministries;
regrettably, Web sites are not included.
