Review

This instruction manual for women looking for advice on how to dump
their male partners would have worked better as a magazine article.
There’s not enough substance to support a book-length treatment. Some
of the authors’ tips may be of practical value to readers who are
uncertain as to how to break the bad news on paper (“The stationery of
choice is the blank, unadorned notecard, whose dimensions should not
exceed 3" x 5") or by fax (“center his full name and title so that the
fax does not go astray, and phone the receptionist at his place of
employment to ensure that it has indeed been received and marked for his
attention”).

Two questions left unanswered throughout are the authors’ purpose in
writing this book and their reasons for calling it a “coward’s
manual.”
