Review

Mi’kmaq culture finds full expression in this anthology of poems. We
encounter touching pathos in “Lost Identity,” wonderment in
“Grandmother” and “Moon Story,” and rich spirituality in
“Spring Celebration.” We also encounter anger and pain at the
exploitation of Mi’kmaq by the more dominant white culture. Here are
records of broken promises, of land expropriation, of degrading cruelty.
A handful of poems are in the original Mi’kmaq language.

The Mi’kmaq Anthology is highly recommended for inclusion in public,
school, and university libraries.
