Review

This play makes great demands on the male actor who takes on its only
role. The instant he steps on stage, the actor must intrigue the
audience with his character’s endless contradictions and “lies.”
He must create the impression that he is improvising, and he must
express his character’s anxiety in a manner that garners sympathy and
support. Ultimately, he must turn his audience into accomplices who
accept his lies. “Speak that I may see thee,” Ben Jonson once said.
This play attempts to do just that.
