Review

In contrast to its title, the poems in this book are very real—and
very good. Frank comes across as thoughtful, excitable, and observant.
He writes in the manner of Al Purdy about everyday events and the
thoughts/observations they give rise to. Although he employs a
colloquial man-in-the-street voice, he’s really someone of exceptional
sensitivity and intellect.

Like Purdy, he also has an excellent sense of humor: “A Canadian Fact
/ did you know / that when you hold a feather / from a canada goose / up
to your eye / and peer through it / at a candle flame / you can see the
colours / of every rainbow / the bird ever flew through / it’s a
Canadian fact.” Pictures of the poet’s bare bottom adorn the
book’s front and back covers.
