Review

This collection of personal lyrics is very slickly written in smoothly
flowing lines that speak of longing and loss and angels, subjects that
the modernists more or less banished from the field. They were rebelling
more against clichés than against the subjects themselves; Fahner’s
poems are anything but clichéd.

Absence pervades her collection. She writes of the voice of an unseen
woman crying, of absent friends, of the longing for reunion.

You Must Imagine the Cold Here is an inexpensive production by a small
publishing house. Let us hope that it catches the attention of a larger
establishment, because Fahner’s work deserves a wide audience.
