Innocent Graves is Peter Robinson’s eighth novel featuring Detective
Chief Inspector Alan Banks. The opening paragraphs will hook any mystery
lover. As a thick fog envelopes the North Yorkshire town of Eastvale,
the vicar’s wife takes a walk through the cemetery to visit her
favorite stone angel. She discovers the body of Deborah Harrison, the
16-year-old daughter of Sir Geoffrey and Lady Silvie Harrison. A
suspect, Owen Pierce, is soon apprehended, even though Banks is not
totally convinced of his guilt.
This is a page turner with lots of red herrings that will have the
reader theorizing about the killer’s identity until the very end.
Robinson received the Arthur Ellis Award, which recognizes literary
excellence in mystery writing, for Innocent Graves; it was a
well-deserved win.
