Review

The oldest story of all is retold as by the voice of the Father of Mankind. Adam, the one of God’s creatures endowed with the divine spark denied all the rest, tells his own story of his creation, his loneliness, the coming of Eve, the temptation of the serpent, the Fall, and all the evils that came into the world with the loss of innocence and Eden, unto several generations. The beloved biblical story comes to new life in this reverent and lyrical rendition. No liberties have been taken with the text: rather, it has been fleshed out in terms understandable to the modern reader, in the spirit of the Old Testament. The book might be read either as a novel or as a gloss upon the book of Genesis.
