Review

In nine easy-to-read chapters, this book covers the ABCs of reading the
Bible. It includes some basic information about what the Bible is and
how it came into being, about the stories it contains, and about the
culture of the time. It comes from a traditional United Church
perspective but also includes other denominations and religions.
Finally, it contains a list of resources for further study, a fairly
extensive bibliography, exercises, a reading schedule, and explanations
of important biblical words.

Written by Ross Smillie as part of a project aimed at developing
biblical literacy, Cracking the Cover would make a worthy addition to
any library.
