Review

These are collections of comics, in black and white, telling the story of Cerebus the Aardvark. They are set in the fantasy period of Prince Valiant, with the sarcastic and cynical gray-pelted Disney-type animal, always with his (its?) narrowed angry eyes, fighting the forces of evil. The material here, collated from all issues from number one (December 1977) through number sixteen (May 1980), has a minimum of flesh and violence, so I suppose it can be considered for readers of all ages (even the special “giant penis” issue fails to arouse any form of response or prurient interest: it falls flat). In addition, there is some unpublished material here as well as the author’s commentary on how and why the Cerebus series started.
