Review

This is an annual publication, formerly issued by the monastic Society of St. John the Evangelist, now released by the Anglican Book Centre in Toronto. The editor continues to be J.D. McCausland, a priest of the Society of St. John.

It is intended to assist Anglican clergy in planning worship services for every day of the Christian year, from the beginning of Advent season on Sunday, November 28, 1982, to the end of Trinity season (Pentecost season in the new Ecumenical Lectionary) on Saturday, November 26, 1983.

An exhaustive listing is provided for each day. The reader discovers whether a particular day is a feast day, a commemoration day or a ferial (ordinary) day. The canticles, scripture readings, psalms and collect(s) are listed daily for Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and the Eucharist. This book also notes the eucharistic scripture readings for each day according to the Ecumenical Lectionary, the readings from the Daily Office Lectionary of the Episcopal Church of the U.S.A., and the daily focus of the Anglican Cycle of Prayer.

From time to time throughout the year the editor has provided additional notes to help the reader understand the changes in liturgical practices which are currently taking place in Anglican and other Christian cinches. On days of special importance (for example, Ash Wednesday or Palm Sunday) more detailed instructions are provided to assist the liturgist in organizing and carrying out the additional observances peculiar to such occasions.
