Review

This is a book of suggested biblical readings with a follow-up story based on the author’s experiences, somewhat similar in structure to The Upper Room (a bi-monthly United Church devotional magazine meant to be read daily). In most cases the sermonizing aspects of the true stories are a bit heavy-handed, and the stories need more editing. Some of the terminology is quite patronizing (Father/Husband is referred to as “Daddy” throughout most of the book, and a widow is “the little widow”). Feminists will not take kindly to the fundamentalist attitudes espoused here, including the subjugation of wife to husband and the view of father as the head of the household.
