Review

“It’s not a country you love. It’s a country you worry
about.”—Robertson Davies on Canada.

This is a book of quotations about Canada and Canadians. The quotations
are arranged under such headings as the land, the people, politics, and
culture. The first half of the book is titled “The National
Inferiority of Canada: How We See Ourselves”; the second half is
titled “The Natural Superiority of Canada: How Others See Us.”
Essentially we have Canadians insulting and denigrating their country
while foreigners praise Canada to the skies! Both sections have a
plethora of interesting, thought-provoking, and humorous quotes.

Canada Inside Out is best savored in small doses. If it were read
straight through, the first section could otherwise begin to overwhelm
the reader with all its negativity.
