Review

Nemchin authored a similar book in 1981, reviewed in CBRA 1981 (entry 2186); entitled Goalie Album, it covered the 1980-1981 hockey season. Here, Nemchin covers the 1983-1984 season of the NHL: 21 teams that employed over 70 goalies. The arrangement of this oversized book is alphabetical by team. For each team are given the names of the current goalies, with an 11 x 16 colour action shot of the first-string goalie and a half-page black-and-white shot of the second- (and third- in some cases) string goalie. The biographical data also include the number of games played, the minutes played, the total goals against, shutouts, and the average goals against per game. At the back there is a listing of all the Vezina trophy winners since 1927, while there is also the new Jennings trophy for the best record (introduced in 1982-1983 season; the Vezina is now awarded to the best goalie as voted by the 21 general managers of the NHL). A nice book, suitable for gifting.
