Review
Living Faith is a small book published for the Presbyterian Church in Canada as a “Statement of Christian Belief.” The Introduction states that it is necessary for every generation “to confess its faith anew.” This does not mean that foundational truths are called in question but that it is necessary to state them and, as this book does, add a development of the basic doctrine in language that can be understood by the ordinary people of the church.
Recognition is given by the Presbyterian Church in Canada for the use of some of the modern statements of the United Presbyterian Church in the United States.
The style of Living Faith is almost biblical in its layout, and the book is very easy to read. There are numbered paragraphs for easy reference to the three pages of Notes and six pages of Scripture references at the end of the book.
The Introduction indicates the hope that although the statement comes from the Canadian Presbyterian experience, there will be a wider circle of readers, not only among churchpeople but among those outside church influence. This reviewer would recommend Living Faith as a useful tool for the ecumenical study groups now being promoted by the churches in this country.
