Review

This excellent guide to bed and breakfasts in Quebec includes sections
on country-style dining, farm excursions (daytrips), and farm stays
(accommodation and dining as well as farm activities). Each building is
illustrated with a small line drawing. Color photographs capture the
architecturally distinctive features of selected buildings.

The 603 bed and breakfasts are arranged by tourist region and listed
alphabetically by name in the index. Numerous maps assist the traveler
in making selections within a given geographic area. Each entry includes
rates, a description, road directions, name(s) of owner(s), addresses,
telephone numbers (fax and e-mail if available), language(s) spoken, and
specific features such as nonsmoking, wheelchair access, bath and toilet
facilities, as well as various services and recreational activities in
the region.

For each of 27 country-style dining establishments, information ranges
from the practical (prices and seasons of operation) to the exotic
(homegrown vegetables and wild game). Sample menus are given in French
in order “to preserve their authenticity.” For the farm
establishments, basic information is provided along with available
activities and types of animals. All facilities featured in this
user-friendly book have been inspected by the Fédération des
Agricotours.
