Review

The mainland coast north of Vancouver, renowned for some of the
world’s most impressive scenery, is the focus of this excellent travel
and recreation guide. Editor Peter Robson has molded the contributions
from his enthusiastic travel writers into a lively and informative
account. All manner of tastes and interests are satisfied here, from
those of automobile tourists to those of logging-road explorers.

The book’s first three chapters—“Welcome to the Sunshine
Coast,” “Lower Sunshine Coast,” and “Upper Sunshine
Coast”—introduce readers to the wonders of the area between Port
Mellon and Lund. The fourth chapter, “Four-Wheeling on the Sunshine
Coast,” by the backroad team of David Lee and Keith Thirkell (authors
of Four-Wheeling on Southern Vancouver Island), is for those who want to
splash some Sunshine Coast mud on their fenders.

The appendix, which bursts with useful information for travelers,
includes tourist information, telephone numbers, a list of parks and
campsites, government telephone numbers and contacts, and a calendar of
events, among other things. An exhaustive bibliography for those who
want to learn more about this beautiful section of British Columbia is
also included.

Sunshine and Salt Air is an essential guide for anyone planning a
daytrip to the area.
