Review

William Burrill, who is proud to say that he is not the celebrated
heroin addict and author of Naked Lunch (that is William Burroughs),
writes an acerbic column called “Naked Eye” in Toronto’s Eye
Weekly. What we have here is a collection of some 75 of his best pieces.

Readers who are looking for something in the style of Stephen
Leacock’s Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town are advised to stay clear
of this collection. Those who would likely enjoy a hard-hitting,
foul-mouthed, postmodernist, leftist rant and rave should take a look.
Oh yes, it is also very funny. The author, who has had a varied career
as a broadcaster, journalist, propaganda hack, and factory night-shift
worker, brings a unique and jaundiced perspective to the trials and
tribulations of modern life.
