Review

Beyond the Sky and the Earth is the story of a women who left her
fiancé and the security of her hometown (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) to
teach at Pema Gatchel Junior School in Bhutan.

Zeppa provides a deeply moving account of her experiences abroad.
Beautifully capturing the trepidation of any educator who chooses to
teach in a foreign country (particularly in remote locations), she takes
readers down a path that evolves from fear of the unknown to total
acceptance and appreciation. Her book reads like a well-written novel
full of drama, excitement, and emotion. In addition to providing insight
into the differences between cultures, she chronicles her struggles to
adapt to a radically different way of life and captures the unique
flavor of each local village. Her story takes a surprising turn when she
falls in love with a local student, Tshewang, proving that love can
bridge cultural differences. Beyond the Sky and the Earth is recommended
for libraries and those with an interest in travel writing and/or
cultural studies.
