Review

Mark Bostwick is a canny observer and commentator on recreational
off-road travel in B.C. In this companion volume to his Four Wheeler’s
Companion: The Off-road Guide to Southwestern BC (1995), Bostwick
describes more than 75 trips four-wheelers can take from British
Columbia’s Lower Mainland to the Kootenays, across the wild
Nicola-Thompson Plateau, through the rough terrain of the Yellowhead and
Cariboo areas, to the Chilcotin and Bella Coola regions. The trips vary
in length and degree of difficulty so that both experienced and
beginning drivers have a range tours from which to choose. In addition
to its useful information on wilderness motor travel, the guide also
includes interesting photographs, several maps, and a good index as well
as a short introduction to the political economy and science of mining
and of the building of logging roads.

Anyone considering four-wheeling through central B.C. would do well to
read this guide for its sound advice and preparation tips.
