Review

For those who decide to use Sympatico as their ISP (Internet service
provider), this handbook provides a basic introduction to the
information highway and makes few assumptions about users’ knowledge
of computers and the Internet. It starts with an overview of some
fundamental concepts and moves quickly into the task of getting
subscribers connected and using the Sympatico service.

The book comes with a CD-ROM containing Netscape Navigator and
Sympatico setup software. Upon installation, users have access to an
“account setup wizard,” Netscape Navigator, and online
documentation. The account setup wizard takes users step by step through
the connection process, while a toll-free help line—tested by this
reviewer—provides courteous and competent 24-hour assistance. Chapters
on using Netscape, Netscape mail, and newsgroups are followed by a FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions) section. Most of the content in these
chapters is geared toward novice users.

This guide is recommended for first-time Sympatico subscribers.
Included in the price is up to 100 hours of free connect time in the
first month of service.
