Review

This faculty member of the University of Western Ontario, because of his training in both physical education and management science backed by 30 years of intercultural experience as a teacher/coach, has produced an excellent overview of general as well as sport management.

The framework for this useful study is the traditional one of managerial functions — planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating. The book’s contents, a composite of Dr. Chelladurai’s teaching materials for graduate and undergraduate courses, will be useful not only to other teachers and students but to the general reader. A summary is provided for each section, questions for discussion, and references for more detailed study. Dr. Chelladurai has applied sound theoretical orientation to the discussion of practical, on-the-job considerations. We are given a comprehensive rundown of management theories and applications from those at the beginning of the century to the latest systems approach.
