Review

Meg Hickling, RN, has been a sexual-health educator for more than 20
years. Her work has involved conducting school seminars for parents and
children on the subject of sex. This handbook is designed as a series of
lessons for parents and their children, based on questions that kids of
all ages have asked the author.

Writing with clarity and enthusiasm, Hickling is matter-of-fact,
reassuring where appropriate, and always informative. As she points out
more than once, often parents—especially those who have grown up in an
atmosphere of repression—need educating as much as their children do.
She emphasizes the “whole person” approach to sex, which
incorporates its physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual
aspects.

The choice of Dr. Margaret K. Merrifield of Washington State University
to write the foreword is mystifying. Surely a member of the Canadian
medical community could have been found to introduce the views of
“Canada’s Best Sex Educator.”
