Review

Eden Press now seems to be specializing in humor books; this is their umpteenth in the space of about 18 months. Here are explored the “myths, controversies and insecurities” of Canadian sports, with contributors such as Allan Gould, Frank Orr, and Barry Houlihan. There is a lot of toilet humor here, as well as crossword puzzles and trivia quizzes. “Blue Jay Ways” and “Winning on the Prairies,” both by Nick Pashley, are the most literate entries. The best joke is the first one in the first story: “The only thing easier than making the NHL Playoffs is getting a Canada Council grant.” It’s downhill after that....
