Review

Intended to provide practical information for travel writers and
would-be travel writers, this do-it-yourself guide covers all aspects of
the travel writing business and offers sample forms and documents to be
adapted by the user. The tone of the volume is chatty and sometimes
tongue-in-cheek.

The authors, all experienced travel writers, discuss the writing
process, marketing, and such business issues as copyright and dealing
with Revenue Canada. Photography is also an essential part of travel
writing, and the authors offer plenty of advice on selection and use of
equipment.

Peculiar to the domain of travel writing is the subject of acquiring
sponsorships. Although the book’s “how to travel for free” section
is informative and certainly describes techniques and approaches, the
authors do not give away any trade secrets. There are no listings for
their most successful markets or their most generous sponsors. This book
is a good starting place for anyone wanting to get into the business of
travel writing; even experienced travel writers may find some new ideas
in it. Recommended for public libraries.
