Review

In the past three years the current U.S. President has referred to “Armageddon” in his policy speeches. “Apocalypse Now” recently was a high-profile movie.

This book, a small monograph of 55 text pages, attempts to explain the idea of Armageddon and the apocalyptic vision from the point of view of the “mainline” Christian perspective.

For the biblical scholar, this will be a review, but for those who have little knowledge of this aspect of the Christian religion, it is a fascinating study of the Old and New Testament apocalyptic vision and literature. Fortunately, the author has a short and concise glossary at the beginning that can be easily referred to during the reading. The author does not shy away from using appropriate terminology and cites various biblical and contemporary sources.

This is an excellent introduction to the study of the Christian apocalyptic tradition and belief.
