Review

This is the catalogue that accompanied the travelling exhibit of 1985 and 1986 (touring eight cities in Ontario). It extends and broadens the vistas already created by the mammoth publishing in 1983 of Canadian Folk Art (Oxford), From the Heart (McClelland and Stewart), and Folk Art (Methuen) — all reviewed in CBRA 1983. This annotated catalogue includes more than 200 artifacts from both private (primarily) and public collections in Ontario. The 60 colour plates and 150 black-and-white pictures detail the craftsmanship of “utilitarian objects” (baskets, ladles, jugs, bowls), textiles, furniture, game boards, sculpture, and graphic works. Typical data include title, date, artist, dimensions, medium, and other pertinent information.
