Review

A fact-filled hockey compendium on the NHL, this guide includes a historical background of teams (best, worst, and the most improved) and specific positions, with chapters on “goal-scorers and playmakers,” “the goalers,” “violence and penalties,” “age and youth,” “the playoffs,” and more. An appendix contains annotated listings of the standings in major-league hockey from 1908-9 to 1985-6. This compendium provides highly detailed answers to many interesting questions, such as whether Wayne Gretzky is the best scorer of all time (he is). Comments and conclusions are supported with analytical charts and tables.
