Review

Breakaway ‘86 represents a new approach to hockey data and the analysis of hockey statistics. The authors use a “focal stat” technique of concentrating on one major characteristic of each team, which provides an historical background of the team’s formation and management, its surprises and disappointments among team players, and statistical positives and negatives of each club’s strengths and weaknesses. Essays on controversial topics such as the 1986 “Tuesday massacre” record day of trades are also included. With eight pages of black-and-white photos, Breakaway ‘86 is a lively and informative hockey almanac.
