Review

Ecoforestry explores what the editors call the new paradigm: the
philosophy, goals, policies and practices of ecologically and
economically sustainable forest use. Among the 35 contributors are
foresters, loggers, planners, policy analysts, environmentalists,
scientists, students, and ordinary citizens. All share the objective of
lending assistance to those who are working to bring human industry into
harmony with nature.

Both editors have impressive backgrounds. Alan Drengson is founding
editor of The International Journal of Ecoforestry and The Trumpeter:
Journal of Ecosophy. Duncan Taylor is a professor of environmental
studies (specializing in community forestry and restoration) at the
University of Victoria. Drengson and Taylor have both been active in
founding and directing Ecoforestry Institutes in Canada and the United
States.

Ecoforestry is encyclopedic in scope. Topics covered include
ecoforestry principles, practices, standards and techniques; forest
ecosystem components and restoration; community forestry; and wood and
forest products certification. Small black-and-white photos are included
in this attractively designed and important book. Highly recommended.
