Review

Designed to help the teacher make sense of the current changes to
education, this concise yet thorough book makes a convincing case for
the need for clearly articulated and authentic learning experiences by
which students can improve performance and achieve better results.
Practical assistance is provided for teachers seeking to shift the
curriculum from basic recall of information to application of skills and
knowledge in a real context.

Through the use of simple language, explicit examples, sample learning
tools, and classroom vignettes, the links between curriculum,
instruction, and assessment are explored, and the practical realities of
teaching and learning are coherently addressed. Terms are defined to
ensure a common understanding of effective program planning. Although
there exists no single, absolute answer to all of the inherent concerns
and questions, the discussions about the features of an outcomes
emphasis and about reporting and communicating advance the thinking
about how teaching and learning should happen.

Included in this useful and instructive reference text are several
suggestions for professional development activities, and many references
to curriculum documents and further reading.
