Michael Maxwell McAllum is obsessed with Perfect Man. Awake, he reads
about Perfect Man, plays Perfect Man games, wears Perfect Man clothing,
and eats Perfect Man cereal. Asleep, he dreams about Perfect Man.
Then, one day, Perfect Man up and quits. Michael, however, isn’t
worried. He is convinced that Perfect Man will return. And indeed he
does—at least Michael thinks that that is who Mr. Clark, his new
teacher, really is.
Perhaps Michael is right, because Mr. Clark has the uncanny ability to
tap into the “super powers” of each of his students, encouraging
them to grow and eventually achieve their full potential.
Dean Griffith’s amusing, cartoonlike illustrations complement Troy
Wilson’s text perfectly. Together they have created a lively, humorous
story that in spite of, or perhaps because of, its underlying serious
message will be a sure-fire hit with late primary/early junior grade
students. Highly recommended.
