Review
A single mom, her two young sons, and the family dog are spending a
short holiday at their cabin in British Columbia. Although the boys
initially fear they will be bored without TV and video games, they make
the most of the trip. During the drive, they admire the scenery, guess
the names of towns ahead, and imagine the pioneer voyages. After
arriving, they ready the cabin by gathering wood and priming the pump.
Later, they take the rowboat to a nearby lake, where they enjoy good
fishing and swimming. They also construct a new dock and a fort. When it
is time to return home, it is no surprise that they want to stay on
where there are so many interesting things to do.
This story’s authentic setting and richly detailed illustrations will
appeal to adults and children alike. Back to the Cabin would also make a
good conversation starter on the subject of memorable summer holidays.
Recommended.
