Review

Sam is a brilliant sheepdog, who all her life tried to get humans to
understand what she was thinking. When she met Jennie, she met her
match, because Jennie could hear Sam’s thoughts.

In The Secret of Sagawa Lake, Sam, Jenny, and Beth (Jenny’s friend)
decide to spend a weekend at an island cabin in the wilderness. Before
long they have a mystery to crack. They’ve found an old diary that
reveals there’s a secret at Sagawa Lake. Sam wastes no time sniffing
around for answers. Could there be a monster at the bottom of the lake?
Could they get a picture of it? The sleuths are determined to find out.

In A Weekend at the Grand Hotel, Sam, Jennie, and Beth are at it again,
trying to solve another mystery. This time the young sleuths land
themselves a weekend stay in the Royal Suite of a five-star hotel. Sam,
in her glory, soon finds herself in the hotel kitchen—that is, until
the chef spots her! Then she moves to the lobby, where people seem to be
looking very suspicious. Are these spies running around the Grand Hotel
or is Sam’s imagination running wild?

Young readers will thoroughly enjoy these exciting and comical mystery
adventures. Sam’s thoughts are printed in italics, which makes it very
easy for beginning readers to follow the story’s dialogue. Both novels
are highly recommended.
