Review
This is a simple little book about a typical morning in a daycare for
four young children. Parents drop the children off at a home on their
way to work. One child, who is having a birthday, brings a cupcake for
everyone. The program includes dramatic play, a story, construction
activities, a walk to the mailbox, and outdoor play in the garden.
Young children may have some difficulty following this story. The
characters receive little introduction or description, and activities or
events do not always proceed in logical fashion. For example, we are
told that “after a while the rain stops,” without any prior
indication that it was raining. One of the book’s strongest features
is the warmth of the relationships between the children and their
parents. Recommended with reservations.
