Review
This fanciful story is about a young man, Leon Napoleon, who loses his
hat while strolling on a windy day. He tries to retrieve the hat, and in
the lengthy chase uses several means of transportation: a 3-speed bike,
a taxi, a plane, a transcontinental train, and a bus. The plot takes an
unusual turn when the question is asked what the head-hunters in the
rain forest would do if they found a headless hat.
The pictures, not the text, are the most significant attribute of this
book. Most of the illustrations are two full pages, and they are bold in
both color and design. Yet within each picture there are numerous
details to enrich the meaning. The feelings of speed and distance are
particularly well portrayed.
