Review

In Mikey Mite’s Big Problem (the sequel to Mikey Mite Goes to School)
we learn the reason for Mikey’s outrageous behavior, lack of friends,
and poor performance in school—his father is a drunk. It takes a car
accident to make father realize that he needs help and must join
Alcoholics Anonymous. Unfortunately, in real life, “cures” don’t
often happen this quickly or easily.

Gilles Gauthier handles the subject sensitively. At the same time, he
makes crystal clear the effect father’s drinking has on Mikey and his
mother. This gentle story, narrated by Jenny, Mikey’s only friend, is
a welcome addition to Formac’s highly successful First Novels series.
Recommended.
