Review

This is a collection of about a half-dozen short stories, all set in
rural Greece. The author is a good craftswoman: she organizes her
material well and chooses her words carefully. She also has a
sympathetic insight into the foibles of human nature. Her stories are
essentially a series of character studies—of men and women, young and
old—around whom the plots organically weave. However, there are few of
the twists and surprises inherent in many short stories. A likable book
that, while not particularly Canadian, has a colorful gallery of
characters.
